Is there a way to configure controllers in game, or only by going to global input configuration in the MAME GUI homepage or other means that are external to the game?
I've always been able to access controller input through the Tab key in all games. Also, by default, the Keypad of the Player 1 controller maps to the Num Pad keys of the keyboard. By default, full emulated keyboard support is enabled under MAME/MESS, and the Scroll Lock key toggles between enabling the emulated system keyboard and the user interface. * Note: When desiring to exit the emulator, the "Scroll Lock" key must be pressed first, then press the "Esc" key.

Many older versions of MAME(/MESS) should work just as well. Tested under the latest version of MAME (0.195) and both games work perfectly.
